Allied Health Professionals

Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are a group of statutorily regulated healthcare practitioners, distinct from doctors, nurses, and midwives, who provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services across the NHS and wider health and care system. There are 14 recognised AHP professions in the UK (including Art therapists (also called art psychotherapists), Drama therapists, Music therapists, Chiropodists / podiatrists, Dietitians, Occupational therapists, Operating department practitioners (ODPs), Orthoptists, Osteopaths, Paramedics, Physiotherapists, Prosthetists and orthotists, Radiographers (diagnostic and therapeutic), Speech and language therapists). They are regulated by statutory bodies such as the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or equivalent regulators, and represented by professional bodies, but they do not function as professional regulators themselves.
